Tenant Improvement Independence Plaza

Share Project:

The Avalon team was awarded the $1.8 Million Capital Improvements contract for Independence Plaza, a Class A High Rise Office Building in Downtown Denver. Our team completed the massive renovation of the ground floor lobby area, including removal of the floor to ceiling granite fountain. The Avalon team worked closely with the architect to rejuvenate the look and feel of the building to remain competitive with the downtown office market.

The Avalon team utilized custom temporary walls to confine construction noise and debris. These walls kept occupants and visitors informed about the project as well as keeping them safe from construction hazards and assisting in wayfinding. Independence Plaza now welcomes guests and tenants with a sleek design and optimal use of common area space. The renovated lobby was unveiled in the Fall of 2018, on time and within budget.

This project was originally awarded to The Vertex Companies, LLC, and transferred to Avalon Construction in December 2025.

The VERTEX team [now Avalon Construction] was respectful, accessible, and communicative with the tenants and property management. People tire of construction projects that impact them on a daily basis and [they understand] that tenants need to be informed. They were always willing to take the time to talk to someone face-to-face. My impression of the [the team] culture is one of caring and pride. Each team member, from preconstruction to superintendent cares about the results and takes pride in the end product.”

– Cathy Harris, Vice President, JLL

VERTEX [now Avalon Construction] was successful on this project because they had a strong team in place and they were great at communication. [The team] had a phenomenal Superintendent that did a stellar job communicating with my team and the building tenants as well. The Superintendent did a great job immersing himself in the project and including himself as a member of the management team which went a long way. The Project Manager was very professional, was always prepared for our weekly meetings and did a great job researching any issues that came up. The Estimator was quick to provide bids for any change orders that were requested by the client. In the end, anytime that a project can appear seamless to the tenants and client, we all win.”

– Jodi L. Janda, Senior General Manager, JLL
